Strata Tiles were delighted to be asked to take part in the first charity ride organised by St James and St William Homes to raise money on behalf of the the North London Hospice, the chosen charity for the event and for the St James office since 2014.
the ride itself took in some beautiful countryside around the Chilterns, covering 58 miles and 2,200 feet of climbing, including some well placed strava segments.
The ride started at 9.00 with us all meeting beforehand for the usual cyclists chat and the always welcome opportunity to eye up some bike porn, even if it will probably beat you to the finishing line, (its not a race!)
the weather was very kind, starting slightly chilly but bright and warming up gradually throughout the ride so a great opportunity to appreciate the team kit for the event, see our photos below.
Teams were invited from all of the St James/ St William supplier network, of the 60 people taking part we had 2 reported punctures which must be something of a record.
Strata fielded a four man team and support. Two of our team were complete novices to the sport, borrowing bikes to be able to take part, all of us acquitted ourselves well and made some good friends on the day.
The organisation and wayfaring provided by Alan and his team at Challenge Central was great, no one got lost or was left behind despite some rather steep hills that took us all by surprise. Happily the ride stopped at a lovely country pub for lunch and a similar venue for the finish, the rest of the evening was spent talking carbon and how much better our times could have been for the day…
Naturally we are very much looking forward to next years event and hoping for an invitation
Strata Tiles Sales Manager Mark Hughes recently went to Seville and whilst there visited the Royal Palace Alcázar of Seville.
Located in the heart of Seville’s Old Town with its fountain-filled gardens, ornate arches & 16th-century tiles, telling the story of how these beautiful handmade tiles were made. Mark took some photos to share with his fellow tile enthusiasts and as stunning as they are, we also wanted to share them with you.
We would like to congratulate TTSP Architecture & Design on winning the Medium Commercial Interiors Project of the Year award at this year’s Mixology Awards event for the St. Helens Tower, part of the Aviva Project.
We supplied our Industrial Concrete range for the main floors and Dante for the bathrooms. The feature staircases were intended to be poured concrete but this wasn’t suitable, so we supplied our Concreto tiles in 1.2m lengths. The Concreto range takes its inspiration from both concrete and stone, being durable, waterproof and long lasting, this was the perfect alternative for the poured concrete.
The Mixology Awards is the UK’s most prestigious award ceremony for the dynamic and innovative interior design community.
Upon receiving the award, Anna Rigoli from TTSP said ”The high quality interior finishes and materials have been selected with great care to provide a light and elegant space. The grey concrete and white tones of the Strata Tiles on the floors and core walls are combined with the use of different species of timber and veneers in the ceilings , floors and wall paneling to the ante room and auditorium. Thank you to Strata Tiles for playing their part in gaining this key recognition and to our continued drive for excellence as we celebrate this independent endorsement of our work”
Following a very successful and somewhat painful ride to raise money and awareness for the Imperial Charity I would like to say a big thank you to all of you very kind people that donated money to this very worthy cause.
Le House Corrine Project – Livingetc Magazine
Strata Tiles were approached by architect & designer Alexandra Orme from Space + Matter, based in Redhill, who came across our Ivanka Decorative Flaster tile range on the Strata Tiles website. Their client was after something a bit different, some colorful decorative tiles for an external residential terrace and the Ivanka Flaster ticked all the boxes. They chose ID277 Flaster Decorative tiles, 2cm in thickness in a mix of sizes, using a combination of the colors Mouse Grey, Cement, Off-white, Ervin Grey, Dark Blue, Sky Blue, Red and Midnight Black.
The finished project was featured in an article in Livingetc’s magazine, one of the highest circulating home life magazines in the UK with a social media community of 1.2 million on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, so it was really great to see our product being exposed to so many readers.

The Vauxhall Art Gallery – Tyers Street
Strata are pleased to announce that The Cabinet Art Gallery project has since been shortlisted for an RIBA London Awards 2017.
Please click here to see more candidates for this years awards.
Strata were approached by Cabinet, a private art gallery client based in London, who were looking for floor tiles for a new gallery project. The client was very specific on the aesthetic required for the gallery floor. The surface colour and texture needed to be non-reflective with good texture.
After looking through our range of Natural Stone & Concrete Products, the client chose Strata Saxum Ignis/Basalt. We then worked together on the final finish, as this floor was for a private gallery with a lower footfall compared to that of a public gallery.
The client selected the ‘Sawn – Classic’ finish, resulting in a uniform, non-reflective surface to ensure a neutral background for the gallery through a mixture of electric and natural light.
Product used: ID135 -Saxum Ignis/Basalt – Grey 1000x1000x20mm – Finish – Sawn Classic
