Roberts Limbrick recognised the importance of a sympathetic restoration, with Associate Director David Anderson stating that they wished to ‘enhance the original heritage and characteristics’ of such a historic building. The project, comprised of three pools, a sports hall and an extensive gym suite, take inspiration from history, with modern technology that ensures the centre will be put to good use for many decades to come. Ian Dungavell, director of the Victorian Society, and at the forefront of the fight for the baths to be reopened, is pleased with the results of the restoration, “It shows you can put a 21st-century leisure centre in an Edwardian building,” says Dungavell.
